So far..."Our Humanity Is Greater Than Our Greed"

Updated: Mar 26, 2020

Something is strikingly obvious in our world at this time; more so than COVID-19 itself. It's evident 'human life is valued more greatly than money'. Mind you, impulses of survival and even greed are challenging us to our core; so it still remains to be seen how this plays out.

You might be asking "what of the emotional, physical and financial cost to individuals and businesses at large?" "What of our economic future?" To those of us directly suffering from the impact of COVID-19, I want to acknowledge you for bearing the financial, emotional and physical fall out of this pandemic.

This is the first time in history that a global catastrophe of this magnitude has been witnessed unfolding and experienced concurrently in every continent via real time media. We will work through our challenges. It just remains to be seen at what scale they will evolve and how long it will take to surmount them. Might we emerge a more benevolent world?

I want to pause with that question, and in this moment celebrate something that's emerged and worth celebrating..."humanity's humanity!"

COVID-19 has literally engaged and fostered a more connected global village, one trying to save lives and discover solutions quickly. No current world leader has had to deal with challenges remotely as difficult as these before, not even Angela Merkel in her fourth term of office. COVID-19's challenges are new to all of us. One thing is certain, at this point in time, 'Human Life' is prioritised over money. Yes I know it's not perfect, but it's a fact. Political decisions will continue to be made hastily, some of them poorly, however would you agree no one individual or government is an expert in navigating this course?

I'm being mindful of how I guide and influence my family at home, and friends and colleagues I interact with on social media during this event. I'm contemplating how can I best support and positively influence their experience during the unfoldment of this pandemic. Each of us has an opportunity to engender humanity within ourselves and others; to be of real service to the outcome. This is regardless of whether we are health workers on the front line, stacking shelves in a supermarket, humbly caring for our loved ones at home, or communicating remotely with friends.

Have you noticed the very people valued so highly at the moment are the service workers in our community? They aren't necessarily home waiting this situation out. They are generally more exposed to COVID-19 in their workplace than we will ever be, hence more at risk of death. Their level of importance in our lives has changed. For the moment, the playing field of life has altered; in some ways it's been leveled. We are reminded it is 'who we are in action' and not what we earn, how financially well off we are, what position we hold in the hierarchy of a business, nor how we look nor our gender that defines us or our value.

I want to ask something of you, although you may already be doing it. It might even be a stretch to ask? During trying times we naturally drop our persona - 'our protective amour', and our vulnerability surfaces. Have you felt that occur? In the days ahead, I'm asking you to reach out to your colleagues and those you do business with. Especially those not usually in your circle of communication. I'm calling on you, both Staff, Executives, Managers and especially CEO's and COO's (who may have just made some very difficult decisions) to check in on your connections, and to continue to do so.

Whether you have been made redundant or not, each person is sustaining stress. This may seem to be an impossible task depending on whom you choose to contact. However, draw on your humanity. Your empathy and care will naturally arise and I assure you, communication will flow.

The result of your actions will be profound. It may even be life changing for you and the person you contact. How would I know? Because I just extended my humanity to you as I wrote these words. I experienced connection to my innate humanity, just as my request of you will centre you in yours.

~

I wish you, your family and friends peace & health today and well into the future
